Passed my FAA exam Today

Today I passed my FAA private pilot written exam. I got an 88 on it and finished it in 1 hour (you have three). I could have done better but I needed to get back to work and was in kind of a rush. All I have to do now is take my check- ride with a FAA inspector and I will have my license! Almost there!

Here is a short video of me landing at Georgetown Municipal Airport. I flared out a little too much and ballooned a bit at the end, but I think I saved it nicely for a smooth landing.

150 Nautical Mile Cross Country

Today I flew my 150 nautical mile cross country from Georgetown (GTU) consisting of stops at Llano (AQO) and Fredricksburg (T82). It was really turbulent and hair raising at times. I really felt like I had to keep a firm grip on the yoke to keep from being blown over at 4000 feet! On the way back I flew at about 8500 feet to get above the clouds and into smoother air. At Fredricksburg the wind was blowing on RW 14 at 210 degrees 15 knots gusting to 21! It was a little nerve racking at the time but in the end it was a good experience and it was fun. All thats left to do to earn my private pilots certificate is to take my written test, prep a few hours with my instructor, and take my a check ride with an FAA inspector.

Solo Flight to Hearne, TX

Solo cross country flight to Hearne, Texas (LHB)

This was a pretty interesting flight as well. I had to fly around my first rainstorm en-route to Hearne. The runway is actually really nice, but the buildings are a little dilapidated as you see below. The aerial shot is a picture of Granger, Texas.
